This may seem strange, but one tiny thing I have become very thankful for recently, is the discovery of organic popcorn.
You see, I'm terribly allergic to corn, corn-syrup, dextrose, malto-dextrin... anything having to do with or made from corn.
But I love popcorn.
I gave it up about 8 years ago. I've cheated a few times and had it anyway (my reaction is not life threatening, just painful and annoying)... but I've always paid for it with a week of severe headaches.
However, Pinterest to the rescue!! I read an article about organic foods not being GMO versions of the food. I took a risk and tried the organic, since I know that GMO foods do cause a problem with me.
Success! Absolutely NO allergic reaction and it is SO much better than "regular" popcorn.
Microwave Popcorn {From Organic Kernels}
1/3 Cup - organic popcorn kernels
2 Tbsp - butter (room temp)
1/4 Tsp - salt
1 - brown paper bag
- Place kernels and salt into brown bag.
- Fold edges of bag over twice (about 1 1/2 inches each time) and crimp as best as possible.
- Place in microwave with folded edge DOWN.
- Pop for 2 minutes, 20 seconds.
- Remove from microwave and immediately add butter.
- Reseal bag and shake vigorously for 1 minute.
- Pour into bowl and enjoy!
Let me know if you try this! I'd love to know what you think!
That's wonderful. No one should have to be without popcorn. That's the sort of thing that happens in Orwellian nightmares.
ReplyDeleteI agree!! It was indeed a terrible thing to live without my beloved popcorn :-)
